Enough

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34
Scripture is bursting with truth and wisdom, but this little verse was on replay in my mind on this overwhelming Tuesday. Humans can only take so much. We are weak. We are fragile. We are inherently selfish. We are actually a lot more childish than we like to think sometimes!
Today was one of those 'more than enough troubles of its own' type of days. We all have those, but right now I am choosing to be thankful for the troubles. For they are what remind me of the crux of this Gospel I adore: I can’t, but God can. And even better, He already did.
This is the simple but oh so good news. It is the foundation of our faith. I encourage you to take today, just today. Then when tomorrow does come, you’ll be ready knowing that He who is in you in greater than he who is in the world-- but also remember you’re still just a little child (1 John 4:4).
I read in John 13 today about the last supper. He writes that Jesus “loved them to the end.” Later Jesus commanded the disciples to love one another. This love was to be the mark of anyone who followed Him. Whatever you are in the middle of: Peace Corps service, parenthood, a job, school, an illness, you name it- may you love those put in your world all the way to the end. Let's be people that love through the troubles and the triumph, not by our own strength but because He first loved us.
Today is enough.
Christ is enough.
You are enough.
Stop and rest with a God who says, you only need to be still, I will fight for you (Exodus 14:14).
Good afternoon, good evening, and good night!
